Residents of Bowman Place and Homes in Annapolis who joined Advantage MD for a free introduction to all things Medicare, also enjoyed a side serving of culinary excitement. On June 25, Advantage MD presented an informative Medicare 101 session to attendees, followed by its very first Healthy Hacks live cooking demonstration, hosted by Chef Giacomo Scuito of Giacomo’s Brick Oven Pizza.
Medicare 101 is an in-person Advantage MD educational event for people who want to learn the basics about Medicare. The session provides a simple explanation of the four parts of Medicare, what they cover and the difference between Medicare and Medicaid. Attendees also learn key terms, other types of insurance and what Medicare doesn’t cover — and they have a live Medicare Specialist to answer any questions they may have.
It didn’t take long after the session for the irresistible aroma of fresh spices to swirl through the lobby once Chef Scuito got cooking. He showed the audience how to prepare a simple, healthy eggplant and tomato pasta dish, while offering easy-to-follow cooking tips. Along with free samples of the dish, attendees also received a free cookbook full of healthy, budget-friendly meal ideas.
