What Is a Medicare Advantage Plan?
Medicare (also referred to as Original Medicare) is a federal health insurance program that provides health insurance coverage to people age 65 and older, and younger people with permanent disabilities, end stage renal disease (ESRD), or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Medicare Advantage (Part C) is a privately managed alternative to the federally-administered Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans, such as Johns Hopkins Advantage MD (PPO), cover what Original Medicare does, plus they include prescription drug coverage. Many plans also cover vision and hearing services, dental care, and health and wellness programs.
Why Choose a Medicare Advantage Plan?
Original Medicare provides basic medical and hospital benefits and only pays for 80% of covered services. Johns Hopkins Advantage MD provides comprehensive benefits that cover your doctor, specialist, and hospital care, as well as many other medical services. Advantage MD also covers prescription drugs, preventive dental, routine vision, and routine hearing care.
